Betis as a feeder club
By: wan |

Well so much for wanting to stay and help Real Betis secure promotion. The latest word over the weekend is that Ricardo Oliveira has signed for UAE club Al Jazira for ₤12million. And if you think the name of the club looks familiar, that’s because it is the same club that signed Rafael Sorbis from Betis last year. It looks as though Betis is becoming to look like a feeder club for the riches of the Arabs… Read the rest of this entry »
Dawn of A New Age

The reality of life as a second class citizen in the Spanish League is both harsh and brutal and as Real Zaragoza has shown, there is no guarantee of an immediate return to the big time just because you were once a “big club”. (In 1995, Zaragoza were UEFA Cup champions and even just 5 years ago, they won the Copa Del Rey). Despite their pedigree, Zaragoza needed two seasons to make their return to La Liga.
So for those who believe Lopera’s words that “Betis will be the Real Madrid of the Segunda Division” had better splash themselves with cold water and wake up fast. Read the rest of this entry »

We will miss you…

They say that the worst part of any disaster or tragedy is not the feelings of shock and despair that come in the immediate aftermath but the slow tortuous darkness that envelopes you in the weeks after the event had taken place. But life and football goes on regardless of how we feel and human nature has a tendency to always find the sliver lining; to find hope that keeps the desire alive. Yet it is a funny situation to talk about hope when it is about to be extinguished; rather the element that provides it is about to depart… Read the rest of this entry »
OH MY GOD

Forgive me for I am still in a state of shock…even until now, I cannot believe the reality that Real Betis – MY REAL BETIS – have been relegated. How am I to accept this, that the first season I adopt them as my team that I have to see them suffer in the most ridiculous manner? Read the rest of this entry »
¡Viva er Beti manque pierda!
By: Kent |I been a Real Betis Balompié fan since about 1988. Why? We can get into that later. What I want to express is that it’s fair to say my emotions have been and continue to be affected by this damn club. And, as you can probably imagine, recent seasons have been, let’s say, trying at best. Now I recognize that an emotional attachment to a sports club is somewhat silly, but it is what it is and I have the bug. So, I thought I’d step up and work with Wan to discuss this great club, its place in Spanish football history, its fans, and, yes, the agonizing yet compelling chaos that seems to threaten half of Sevilla and us two dozen fans across the globe each and every season. There you go…
One fans emotional attachment (from thousands of miles away mind you) doesn’t matter right now. What matters is that 40+ thousand Beticos are more prepared to sing up the club and refrain from egg throwing and hurling incredibly accurate bottles at Sevilla managers. What really matters is that the players have the emotional maturity and the professionalism to get their asses in gear and play like they’re capable of playing. Yeah, yeah, the inconsistency this year (and last) has been astounding, I know, I know. But tomorrow is one game with the club’s destiny in the hands of a few mercenaries (oops, did I write that?) in green and white. And winning is the only sure thing to keep us up! That being said, here’s a thought: W-I-N.
I’m off for now, off to work on finding a television where I can watch the game. May the miracle of Edú or someone keep us…nope, no negative thoughts. Please, someone step up, please!
¡Musho Betis!
More after the game.
Is this Love that I’m feeling?

After so many months, so many matches and so many different emotions, we have finally come to this…the fact that Betis now lies 1 point above the relegation zone and have a do-or-die match against Valladolid this coming Saturday. So why the hell am I smiling? Read the rest of this entry »
So it has come down to this…

Is it just me or did Betis really have a change of coach? The resemblence is uncanny and it goes beyond the way in which both men like to clench their fists as an expression of determination.
Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

An advanced “sorry” to all the few Betis fans… after my last post, I realised that I have upset the Footballing Gods and thus to pay penance, I told myself to hold off posting on Betis until they finally won another game but after three maddening matches, I realised that we may go all the way to the final game of the season without seeing Betis win. Thus my responsibility to this website won over my own superstitous beliefs… Read the rest of this entry »

Weird as it may seem, (and apologies to the few Betis fans who bother to even read this blog), I was holding off on writing about them for fear of jinxing their good recovery… Read the rest of this entry »
